The streets here are oddly named, and even more oddly pronounced. The streets (at least in the French Quarter) all have an English name and a French name, and the two seem to be completely unrelated, as can be seen in this picture. [And the streets all have historical third names, which were their names in Spanish times.]

And the pronunciations are often crazy. "Burgundy" is pronounced "burr-GUN-dy". "Calliope" is pronounced like "envelope". And this last one is crazy, "Clio" is pronounced "see-el-ten". Mindboggling.
