A tall national Chrstmas tree. In the summer. Wacky. The white building in the background is the old parliament house.

Me, in my funny Australia hat (which I got in Seattle). It served me well, keeping the sunburn off my face.

There's a large lawn up the sloping sides of the parliament building. You can walk up to the top.

The view down the slope. You can see the War Memorial straight down the street.

The flagpole. The flag itself is apparently the size of a double-decker bus.

The first of many of these "raytracing" sculptures. We called them that because their simple geometric shapes and mirrored surfaces are exactly the kinds of scenes that are simplest to raytrace on a computer.

This is the largest wooden flagpole in the world. It's made from one tree, and was a gift from Canada.

The Telstra Tower, and the walk along Lake Burly-Griffin. The Burly-Griffins were a husband and wife team from Chicago who won the competition to design the city of Canberra.

We were driving around the part of Canberra that contains the embassies. Across from the US embassy, we spotted this kangaroo in a field. I named him Joey. It was the first kangaroo Kat and I had seen, so we made the driver (Nikita) stop, and we got out to take some pictures.

That night, we went out to dinner. Steve chose the wine and Corqy (the artificial cork with the tag attached) tasted some.
