This is Nieuwmarkt (Newmarket) Square in Amsterdam, on New Year's Eve. It was pretty much packed with people, except for where people were setting off fireworks. The building in the centre is apparently one of the oldest buildings in Amsterdam (originally one of the (walled) city's gates), and now houses a cafe and a multimedia centre.
