Pictures from Ian and Kat's Digital Camera: Side trip to Montenegro
[Up to Dubrovnik, Croatia (plus Montenegro): 16–20 June, 2015
]
Here are pictures from various trips I have taken to faraway (and
not-so-faraway) places.
A week before the end of our European sabbatical adventure, we made one
last trip. We joined Kat's brother Tom in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and made
a one-day side trip to a few places in Montenegro.
We took a one-day side trip to various places in the neighbouring
country of Montenegro.

- A map of the area (a UNESCO World Heritage Site; we lost count of how
many of those we visited (and lived in!) on this sabbatical year).

to visitors.

- Among the bees, this quite large black insect also enjoyed the flowers.
Some kind of beetle, perhaps?

- We drove around the bay to Perast, where we took this tiny boat to the
"Our Lady of the Rock" artificial island. The island was constructed
over the course of a century after fishermen found a painting of the
Virgin Mary on a tiny outcropping of rock in 20–30 metres of
water. After constructing an island for a century by dumping more rocks
there (as well as captured ships laden with rocks), they spent another
century constructing the church on the island.

- More around the bay to Kotor. The old city of Kotor is nestled between
water and a very large mountain. It is surrounded by a large wall that
goes a substantial way up the mountain.

the mountain.

- You can walk these walls as well, but it's something like 1300 steps, so
it's far more exerting than the Dubrovnik walls.
