We went to Spain in July 2012, for the ECRYPT Provable Privacy workshop and the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (both in Vigo), but spent a few days in Barcelona fist, and had an afternoon and evening in Madrid on the way home.

After arriving in Barcelona on our redeye flight, we had a little nap, and then headed out to explore. We started with a large park just east of our hotel, in the Gotic neightbourhood.

They have a W hotel. We were later lamented to that "W isn't even a letter in Catalan". (That overstates it a bit, as it's used at least in borrowed words.)
