We went to Spain in July 2012, for the ECRYPT Provable Privacy workshop and the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (both in Vigo), but spent a few days in Barcelona fist, and had an afternoon and evening in Madrid on the way home.

The oldest synagogue in Europe. It's no longer active, but they do hold weddings and bar mitzvahs here.

This old torah is no longer kosher, but the synagogue's ark holds a kosher torah from the 16th century.
