Pictures from Ian and Kat's Digital Camera: Ian and Kat's walk around San Francisco: 15 April, 2002
[Up to Our World Travels ]

Here are pictures from various trips I have taken to faraway (and not-so-faraway) places.

Back when I lived in the Bay Area, I would take visitors on a long walking tour of the touristy parts of San Francisco. Today I'm back, and I'm taking Kat on it.

We started our walk at Pier 39. One of the best features of this otherwise tourist trap are the sea lions.

Cutting through Fort Mason, on our way to the Palace of Fine Arts (the domed building just to the left of the big trees in the center). Note that the dome is not in fact on the white building in front you can see; it's substantally further away.

...but we made it. Here it is, close up. We were aiming to go to The Exploratorium, but it turned out it's closed on Mondays this time of year. :-(

Then we walked up Lombard street. See the dome again, in the upper right of the picture? We walked from there. [We'd been walking for several hours at this point already, starting from Pier 39.] San Francisco's of course known for its hills.

You can see Alcatraz from here, too.

Going down Lombard, we're at the "crookedest street in the world" part. You can see Coit Tower and the Bay Bridge in the distance.

We took a cab to the Metreon, and visited the Where the Wild Things Are exhibit. It's pretty wacky. Here, Kat swings on ropes.

After the Metreon, we took a cab back to the hotel. This is from another day; this sign is in the park in front of City Hall.
