Pictures from Ian and Kat's Digital Camera: The new HFH Hangout
[Up to Queensday 1999 in Amsterdam and Paris ]

Here are pictures from various trips I have taken to faraway (and not-so-faraway) places.

These are photos I took during my trip to Amsterdam (and a daytrip to Paris) between 28 April 1999 and 6 May 1999. After I passed my qualifying exams on 26 April, I hopped on a plane to Amsterdam the next day for a week and a half of partying.

Near the end of my trip, I also threw a Party At Ian's Place At the Hippies Hangout.

The Hippies rented a place dubbed the ``Hangout''; eventually it will have some workspaces and computers in it, but this week it was an awfully convenient place to stash 11 North American visitors for Queensday.

Inside the hangout. The group of us from North America who came to Amsterdam for Queensday was the first group to stay at the Hangout. Eventually, computers will go in the (now empty) machine rack on the left. When we were there, there wasn't even a phone line, let alone a net connection. We just used a prepaid GSM phone for voice connectivity.

In all, 11 people were staying at the Hangout that week (though I don't think all 11 were ever sleeping there at the same time). We had a bunch of mattresses, sleeping bags, and couches that were used where necessary.

The kitchen of the Hangout. The pace used to be a tea house, which explains the cash register. The kitchen was pretty sparse; there was no way to heat up food, but there was a coffeemaker, and you could boil water for tea by putting the pot on top of the water heater.

The backyard. There's a small garden in back, along with a table and deck chairs. Very nice place.
