Pictures from Ian and Kat's Digital Camera: Around Town in Amsterdam
[Up to New Year's 1999 in Amsterdam ]

Here are pictures from various trips I have taken to faraway (and not-so-faraway) places.

These are photos I took during my trip to Amsterdam between 31 Dec 1998 and 7 Jan 1999.

It's quite possible I'm forgetting or misspelling some of the names of the people pictured here; help me out if you can.

Some of the pictures came out a bit fuzzy because they were taken in the dark with a long exposure, and I'm still very new at this photo-taking thing.

Here are some shots I took of things around town, taken while I was playing tourist.

Amsterdam's a major city like any other, complete with international franchises. Here we see a McDonald's and a Planet Hollywood.

A map of Amsterdam. I was staying at Hinde's place, which is further south than the map shows.

A Christian Youth Hostel. This wouldn't be notable, except that it was right in the middle of Amsterdam's Red Light District; prostitutes displayed themselves in their windows just steps away.

This is the building in the middle of Nieuwmarkt Square, where we were at midnight on New Year's Eve. The square being emptier the next day, we could get up close. This is the front of the building, showing the entrance to the cafe.

This is the back of the building in Nieuwmarkt Square; this shot more clearly shows its origins as a gatehouse for the original walled city.

The "lunchroom": a common sight in Amsterdam. They basically serve small sandwiches on little rolls.

This is the house in which Anne Frank and her family hid during WWII.

They're renovating the Anne Frank House to attach a much larger museum.

This is one of the little rooms in Anne Frank House (Peter's room, I think it was).

The Diary of Anne Frank. You've probably heard of it.

The front of the Rijksmuseum. The Van Gogh Museum (down the street) is currently under renovation, so much of the Van Gogh work is now in here. There's also an exhibit on Rembrandt's "Night Watch" (and of course many other things).

We didn't actually go in here, but the name of the place struck me as appropriate for the trip.

Amsterdam by day. This is a walking/biking path leading to Euro RSCG Interactive's Amsterdam office, in the Science Park.

Oh, yeah; we're in Holland. Here's a windmill we passed by in the car.
